My First experience on Flash Mob

Hi friends today I'm going to talk about one of my real experiences. First of all I would like to thank Ms.Samanthika, Mr.Amitha and all other lectures who shared their knowledge on digital marketing.

According to our Digital marketing lecture content we have to maintain our personal blog for our individual assignment and a digital marketing campaign for a particular company which we can select to do our group assignment.

Therefore as a group we selected "Salon Liyo" which is situated at Nugegoda for our group assignment.The ultimate objective is to attract more customers for our selected organization by using tools which we learnt through the lecture Digital marketing series. To achieve this target we did lot of e-marketing campaigns like Facebook page, Twitter account, Liyo website, SMS campaign, Facebook advertisement, YouTube channel and a flash mob. Among all those activities flash mob was a very exciting experience because we had to be organize it and do it in a very short time period. It was an amazing experience in my ever life.

We selected the Wetland Park in Nawala road for our flash mob because our target audience are the people who live around Nugegoda and for that we had to take permission from the Difference ministry. Our next goal was arranging video cameras, Music tracks, sounds and more people to dance. All these responsibilities we delegated among our group members. As for the event date we selected 22nd Saturday evening, since a lot of  people visit the jogging path in the evening. There were 12 people who participated for our flash mob and we practiced it on Saturday morning at our University premises.

After arranging all the stuff we visited Nawala park at around 4.30. There were five boys and 7 girls  and among the 7 girls 6 were wearing Saloon liyo t-shirts. We managed to get three banners done which says, "Like us on FB", " Follow us on Twitter" and " Follow us on Youtube" to show the crowd at the end of our dance.After that we set all sounds equipments  and cameras and we played music, we ran from different corners to the dancing spot and some of our other members joined from the crowed.Then we started to dance together and we did it for a duration of five minutes. At the end of our dance we showed our three banners to the audience and we disappeared from that place. 

Lastly we fine tuned the video and uploaded it to our Youtube channel and share among our all pages.It was a new and exiting experience for all of us.

How FMCG brands can reach to the right target audience using Google display network

Hi friends!! today I'm going to talk about little bit different topic but it's not a new to us. This week topic is about the effective selecting of TG by using display adds on Google display network. First of all we look at the idea of Google display network "Google's network for displaying sponsored ads besides its search engine. This can include YouTube, other social media, Google partnering websites and other Google properties. The Google network supports all ad formats and can provide demographic targeting. There are different ad formats in Google display network and it supports to indicate ads on a different placement such as news sits, blogs and other niche sits across the internet.

      
These ads which can be in text, image, video or niche media format can be targeted automatically according to the key word you select.I hope now you all have a good idea about Google display network then I'm going to explain you about how it apply to the FMCG sector. There is no specific age group for fast moving consumer goods sector because all most all the people engaging with them even infants too.Therefore it's not a very difficult target to achieve and its' an easy access tool available for design and broadcast companies banner advertisement. Not only that but also Google ads help to create awareness for trendsetters or new comers the main reason behind that is the internet engagement of the consumers increase rapidly. And also the development of technology help to marketers create their ads in a more attractive way.  


  

When creating Google ads, marketers want to think about some factors to address right audience at right time.


  • What is the product or service do you want to promote - Because marketers can create separate ads for the different product lines based on their nature.
  • Where do you want your ads to appear - Here also marketers can elect to show ads on both search and display networks or only the display network then can select places where you want to show your ads.
  • What are your bidding and budgeting preferences - Here marketers want to set maximum daily budget for campaigns.
Some times people ignore Google ads therefore marketers should have a ability to create ads more creatively. Because Google ads help to  create awareness about products, generate more sales to the companies, good tool to grab special place on consumers mind and also help to create brand loyalty. 

The following chart will show the power of Google ads on FMCG sector according to the 2012 statistics.



   

As a conclusion I recommend that every company want to measure their performance on google ads and want to take relevant actions (whether the ads appear in a relevant places or if not want change it and is their any impact to the sales like wise)Therefore its' better to start google ads on lower budget..

The power of Viral Videos..


Hi friends hope you all are doing well.Welcome you to my seventh blog post. This week's topic is a really interesting topic because we have a freedom to write under any topic which we like so I have written a blog about "How viral videos affect brand". I hope you will be able to grab a good knowledge about this new trend.

In simple terms Viral Video means "videos becoming popular through the process of internet sharing, typically  through video sharing websites, social media and emails. Viral videos became more popular with the development of social media. Now it has become a common trend. The best example is  PSY Gannam style video. There are lots of people interested in that video all around the world as result of high sharing. Not only that but also the marketers converted it as a good opportunity for their business purposes. Following is that video.
  
We are not defining all videos as Viral videos, to become a viral there is a process its as follows. For instance my friend tells about a video which he has seen, then I watch it and likewise I pass it on to my friends through websites, social media or emails. Then they watch and like it and forward the link or clip to more people. The popularity of the video spreads like a "virus", that's where the word "Viral" can be applied to describe this phenomenon.   

 Business also can yield benefits if they make right type  of videos.There are lots of  ways to create viral videos one way is "Slice of life". The best example is singing cat and dancing babies phone application video, they are entertaining, shocking or inspiring videos that have no other purpose than to amuse the audience for as long as they can.There are some other ways "talent and skill" that means use exceptional singers, musicians, artists, performers, dancers and draw a lot of attention.Use "celebrities" is also a another type of viral video.
It will help the business to go beyond their current situation.The best example is 'The old spice guy" video campaign as a result of that viral campaign they attracted a lot of attention all over the world.

   














basically viral videos are based on two platform.They are funny and serious so business people can provide genuine values to viewers not only funny stuff. As a example "how to bake a cake" ,"how to apply light makeup" and etc.it will help to create good account of you and your business in the minds of your prospects.It will create different benefits to the company;

  • Massive exposure - Since YouTube is the second biggest search engine on the web this puts videos in a strong position to get viewed from highly motivated prospects.As well as if a video is more popular and well optimized it can gett on the first page of Google's universal search results.
  • Low investment cost.
  • Built authority.
  • Better brand recall.
  • Big inbound traffic boost - YouTube and other sharing videos allow to post a link back to your website in the description section of each video therefore it will direct you to the relevant place without any traffic.
Since viral videos create more benefits to the companies I believe that this is good way to communicate brand with a good impression. And also it has strong ability to influence on brand now a day..

How to target a niche audience with Facebook advertising...

By hearing the above video you can have a good idea about effective Facebook usability. Facebook is a good tool to achieve niche audience because by using facebook we address right audience at right time in a very cost effective manner. But, since Sri Lankan's face book majority is youth, marketers have to think twice before setting  an advertisement because it should be more relevant.
There are two types of face book ads;
  • One is small advertisements that come up on right hand side bar when you in FB.
  • Second one is sponsored stories that come in the news feed in your home page.



    



There are three steps to follow when creating FB ad.


  • Build your FB page
It is free way to communicate with customers.
  • Connect with People
Get people to like your page by creating several ads
  • Engage your audience.
Post quality updates and promote your posts with ads to connect customers and their friends.

As a part of facebook ad we can create a FB page to promote business and maintain loyal customer data base.

To create FB ad you have to select "Create an Ad" on your FB page after that you have to enter URL of a FB page. People can have a lots of benefits because of FB ad ; they can generate likes and  more clicks. Then you can add headline, text and images.Then we move to more important part of this process that is choosing the audience. It allows us to select target audience based on different bases like location, gender, age, connections and so on.






There is a freedom to adjust our campaign according to our wish, finally we move to deciding the budget. It allows us to maintain daily budget limit or life time budget.It will help to control our promotion cost.

Social Media Markrting!!!!!!!

This week I'm going to talk about Social Media Marketing; when we talk about SMM the first thing which comes to everyone's mind is making advertisement in FB, Twitter, Google + or Youtube but this topic goes beyond that.Just visit this site to get a good idea http://searchengineland.com/guide/what-is-social-media-marketing . Not only that but there are lot of videos on SMM in Youtube. I will share some of them.




We know only few Social Media networks, but there are lot like Linkdin, Myspace, Skype, Google +, Live journal, You tube, hu lu, Net Flix, Daily Motion and etc. Social Media allows individuals to interact with one another and build relationship. This is a good way of doing marketing because marketers can directly approach to the  customers and it gives the ability to know their positive and negative response on products or the brands. Main advantage of SMM is it helps to create brand awareness and likability.

There is a framework to develop social media plan.They are;
  • First want to get a good idea about current situation. (Listen)
  • Then want to do a "Social Media Brand Health Check" to identify vulnerabilities, action points, sentiments and other business insights. (Analyze)
  • After that want to set objectives  which we want to achieve within SM timeline. (Set goals)
  • Taking necessary actions to achieve goals. ((Engage)
  • Finally want to do paid campaigns and timely promotions to amplify SMM. (Amplify) 
You can simply understand above all steps except "Social Media Brand Health Check" so now I'll explain you, the process of doing that health check. Here I have shared my evaluation on the brand I selected which is "Pizza Hut"  and "Dominos" as a competitor.




Key to the "Your Level of Satisfaction"
0 - Totally Dissatisfied
1 - Somewhat Dissatisfied
2 - Neutral
3 - Somewhat Satisfied
4 - Very Satisfied

Overall Pizza hut brand is doing good but they are not much successful in SMM since there overall score is 60.It wants increase in many areas.  
My selected brand has around 10mn fans and competitor brand has around 8mn fans in Face book. You can just check it by Googling. When local fan base of Pizza hut is compared to the total fan base it has very low percentage that is only .34% .Since it is a universal brand Pizza Hut want to do more promotions to attract customers through digital media.

There are 328,278 followers in Twitter for the Pizza Hut and 205,173 followers for Dominos. Pizza Hut leads by just 123,105 followers that means Dominos give good competition to Pizza Hut  Among all followers 83% are good followers of Pizza Hut and Dominos has 71%. In a You tube there are 2,764,143 video views for Pizza Hut and 2,063,909 video views for Dominos.All the times both company have almost same figures.Not only that these two companies are in other SM too like Google +, Linkdin and Myspace.

People talks about  Pizza Hut more than Dominos (PTA). Klout score measures a brand on line influence and convert to scale from 0 - 100. Pizza Hut brand has 87 score and Dominos has 85 score which means they both are in almost same place. People tweet more about Dominos than Pizza Hut that means Dominos followers are more engaging with internet than Pizza Hut followers. People have bad experience on Pizza Hut  than Dominos and since Pizza Hut has only a little excess market share than Dominos they have to think about their strategies twise because Dominos gives a good competition to Pizza Hut.


Through out this research I came to this conclusion, Pizza Hut is successfull in SMM but they have to  more efforts to compete with Dominos.

How to do a key word research????

Hi my dear readers !!!Hope you all went through my previous posts and really enjoyed them, today also I'm here to share a very important part of a SEM. This blog post is continuation of my previous blog http://dinagloeye.blogspot.com because earlier we talked about Search Engine Marketing ( you can have a better idea from Wikipedia) under that we discussed about Search Engine Optimization and Paid Advertising on Search Engine/ Pay Per Click (PPC). 
Last week we mainly drew our attention to discuss about SEO therefore today I'm going to share my experience on key word research for an industry in Sri Lanka. Here we mainly talk about PPC. To promote our web site among users we want to select effective key words specially it should be relevant to the our target market. Content sites commonly charge a fixed price per click rather than use a bidding system.Websites that utilize PPC ads will display an advertisement when a key word query matches an advertiser's key word list or when a content site displays relevant content. 

I just checked if any one search "branded clothes in Sri Lanka"  in Google what would be the result, I did this search as a visitor then it showed about 32,700,000 answers within 17 seconds. I was surprised because I wanted to see ODEL Sri Lanka in that answers, no dought it became the second that means ODEL website is very optimised.




Then I have done Adword research for the "branded clothes in Sri Lanka" in Google Adword because it is most popular website for that purpose. It will easily help to users run a keyword research using Google Adword. We can just check it without any payment.

       
 First we want to visit the website (https://adwords.google.com) then sign in to the Google account and want to select Tools and Analysis. I used "Branded clothes in Sri Lanka" as my phrase and in advanced option & filters I selected Sri Lanka and English as my audience. Following are the relevant key words which I received through this research. 



Among all 800 result I selected only six as my key words.


The result showing that there are low competition for key words of branding cloths in Sri Lanka.. I think it's easy for branded clothing shops to use SEO and PPC. And now advertisers can create advertising campaign for different group. 

I have created simple advertisement for ODEL clothes as follows ;

I showed you the process of creating PPC ads.There are lots of advantages of PPC ads rather than just online advertisement. They are ;
 
  • Expand our reach through the display network that means since Google is largest coverage it will help to reach viewers all over the web.
  • Because of key words  it will help to target right user in the right context.
  • With the "Placement performance report" we have visibility to find where all our ads appear. As well as we can create it according to our badget.
  • Not like other advertisement we just want to pay only for click.

Webinar on Search Engine Optimization

Hi my dear readers, I’m going to share my first-hand experience on a webinar. Actually it was a really interesting session because as a Sri Lankan undergraduate we never had the experience of distant learning. So I would like to thank Mr. Suranga Priyashantha and Mr. Amitha Amarasinghe for giving us the opportunity to engage in a valuable lesson. I think this post might be very fascinating than my previous posts thanks to the live experience.

For today’s business, technology plays a critical role in all the functions. With the arrival of social media, researchers have proved that customers spend more and more time online to absorb new and updated information. Marketers have been motivated on using social media, online and mobile advertising to promote their products and services. 




The topic which we discussed in our lecture was SEM (Search Engine Marketing) that means “marketing in search engines”. Simply the ability of providing company information or product information once the visitor search for terms (key words) relevant to that website. Under that we talked about two topics. They are;
  • Search Engaging Optimization (SEO)
  • Paid Advertising on Search Engine/ Pay Per Click (PPC)

 The entire lecture was mainly focused on SEO, its uses and the importance. SEO means “the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s "natural" or un-paid ("organic") search results’. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users”.

PPC means “the process of attracting visitors to the website by purchasing ad space on search engine results pages “according to Mr. Priyantha’s point of view.

Once I think of the word “search” the first thing which comes to my mind is “Google” and it is general to everyone. It is the best way of answering problems in consumers or surfers mind. Now it has become a customers need, and day by day it’s swelling rapidly. As a result of technology development ‘search’ can create problems to customers. That means it makes consumers to buy some products and services without special requirements, (E.g- e-bay). The most important thing of ‘search’ facility would be the ability to create “Zero Movement of Truth” that means without physically monitoring, consumers can gather information just by Googling. 

Finally we talked about Key Success factors and four key process involved in SEO. 

As for conclusion I can say the experience was very interesting plus informative. And hope to be a part of more webinars in the future not only for education but in the corporate world too.
